Today Paronella Park is generating its own electricity using a 1930s hydro electric system, the first in North Queensland. The system was refurbished in 2008/09, costing over $400,000.
As of December 2009, excess power has been fed into the grid. The Cairns Post covered the story in this article.
The system today can operate for 11 months of the year, with around a month where the falls are too small.
