Turbine Pieces Removed
|
Electricity transmission company, Powerlink Queensland, and its principal contractor, Downer Engineering, were using a large crane in the region during construction of the replacement high voltage transmission line between Tully and Innisfail.
Powerlink North Queensland Project Manager, Tom Graham, worked with the Powerlink and Downer construction teams to determine that a small window of opportunity existed to provide access to the crane for the removal of the turbine.
The crane arrived on 11/04/08 and was covered by channel 7 and 9 and local newspapers.
Piece by piece the turbine and assiciated parts were removed from the building and lowered on to a truck. Everything to be crated up and shipped to Germany for restoration.
The next stage will be to replace old pipes and prepare the hydro room for the reinstallation.
