In order for us to gain government funding we are going to refurbish the hydroelectric unit at the park for grid parallel operation. This process is quite a lot more expensive than replacing the unit.
We will be doing several things over the next 8 months including:
- Refurbishing the existing turbine (Removal of turbine: April 9-23)
3-4 months estimated for refurbishment.
- Replacing the obsolete generator
- Installing new electrics
- Replacing piping from intake to water lock and water lock to the turbine
- All this along with the replacement and refurbishment of several other parts.
- The Turbine will be reinstalled, connected, ready for operation and connected to the grid in Sepetember.
Reports have been put together early 2007. Structural reports have told us:
- The buildings floor is incredibly strong
- Even though the building has been completely submerged many times and will continue to be submerged in the future, the building will continue to stand even if it loses some of its support columns.
- Even if the building collapses, there will be no danger to the public
- The walls are still very close to vertical
- A small part of one of the walls has collapsed but has not weakened the building due to the beam and piers strength.
- No strengthening is needed for the building and vibrations from an operational hydro shouldn’t affect the building.
