I first heard of Paronella Park from a friend when I was living in Townsville. One day, I decided to head north and see what all the fuss and rave was all about.
After Leaving Cardwell, I had to look for the sign pointing for Paronella Park. When I arrived there, my immediate thoughts were that it didn't look as special as had been descibed to me.
Nothing could have been further from the truth.
As soon as I entered the park, I immediately felt a sort of eerie feeling. This I later contributed to the magic of Paronnella Park.
I was taken on a park tour and immediately realised what the fantastic accomplishments had been achieved by Jose Paronella. The entire park was and is a labour of love.
The hydro-electric scheme, the icecream machine, ballroom, movie theatre, tunnel of love and the magic of the Kauri Walk. This place was amazing. You could really feel the love that Jose had built into his park.
In April 2005, I took my girlfriend to visit Paronella Park and decided that his was the ideal place to ask her to marry me.
After the tour, I took her back through the Tunnel of Love and in front of the small waterfall, I asked her to marry me. Luckily for me, she said yes.
Paronella Park will always hold a very special place in our hearts as being a magical place of wonder and awe. The work that Jose Paronella did during construction will never be replicated and I'm glad that everything will be kept original, even when Mother Nature weilds it's natural disasters on the park.
As for me and my wife, we will be back many many times to experience the wonder of Paronella Park and will definitely recommend it to friend an family as a place of magic and wonder in this crazy world of ours.
Cheers
