Touring around Australia with friends, both of us in Fifth Wheelers, we often get a bit lost or wonder if a town or city is worth parking up for a while and discovering.
One such time was when we were in Innisfail and we had to decide where to go to next. We did our normal thing and went to the Information Centre. We had to wait in line to be served and overheard another couple being told that if they only did one thing in the area it should be to go out to Paronella Park. Our ears pricked up and we thought maybe that was the thing for us.
We grabbed a few mementoes from the centre then went shopping for supplies.
We decided after shopping that we should go back to the information centre and find out about this park.
We had a little pow-wow over lunch and thought “what the heck”, we are travelling, we may as well.
Off we go and we find this magnificent sight in the middle of nowhere. We travel with a little dog and thought that that would be the end of it but we parked up our rigs and the others went into the office to enquire about this wonderful place and came out with huge grins. Not only could we visit for the day, but we could also stay the night and visit the park at our leisure and our beloved little dog could stay as well.
We decided that we would have a quick look around that afternoon and maybe go to the local hotel for tea that night as it was our friends birthday that day.
We wandered around and totally lost track of the time and had to rush back to the rigs to get changed for our big night out at the Mena Creek Hotel. We had a great night there with wonderful food and company.
Next day we went on guided tours of Paronella and was completely fascinated by the structures and the history. What an achievement. We totally lost track of the time again. We had lunch and a coffee as well which was a treat.
I went straight back to our van and got on to the internet and told all of our family and friends to check out the wonderful internet site of the Paronella Park, they were
all impressed and some are now looking forward to visiting in the next couple of months
We had the most enjoyable two days of our holidays and haven’t stopped telling everyone on our way that if they ever are in the area they had better not miss this wonderful sight.
Well done to all involved and we will most certainly be returning next time we are in Queensland.
