In 2006, my wife and I were holidaying in the Cairns area, shortly after a cyclone devastated an area around Innisfail.
We did a day trip sightseeing and decided to visit a place called Paronella Park. We had not heard of Paronella Park except from a brochure obtained from the caravan park where we were staying.
Arriving at Paronella Park, the first observation was the devastation caused by the cyclone, with uprooted and broken trees.
On entering the park and observing the result of the sheer brilliance of a man who built the park with his hands over a period of years with little mechanical assistance, was unbelievable and was the highlight of our trip, Our tour guide (Ann I think) was excellent with a thorough knowledge of the history of the park. The foresight of this man and his layout of this magnificent park with the waterfall as the central attraction was brilliant.
The current owners and administrators of the park are to be congratulated for their efforts to restore the property to its original splendour.
We were so impressed with Paronella Park, we have recommended a visit to many of our friends and acquaintances travelling in your area. Our grandson (grade 4) featured the park in a school project under the theme of “Australian Natural or Man Made Landmarks” creating much interest amongst students and teachers.
