My wife Patricia would like to submit this testimonial.
From the late thirties until the early seventies my father was involved in the sugar industry based in Brisbane. Part of his job was to regularly visit Nth Queensland canefields and provide information and advice to cane farmers.
When he returned to Brisbane he used to tell me about the beautiful pink castle he used to pass as he travelled in the area. He used to attend functions at Paronella Park and told about the beautiful grounds and ballroom especially the mirror ball and said to me that one day he would take me to this mystical place.Unfortunately he passed away in 1981 and we never made this trip.
In 2005 my husband and I leased the Euramo Hotel and one of our first outings on our day off was to find and visit this beautiful place Paronella Park. I wanted to relive the dream my father had spoken. I was not disappointed as we listened to our guide telling this romantic story I had shivers up and down my body and felt my dad was there with me. It was the most wonderful feeling. It was as my dad had told me as a little girl although it was not in its full glory I could imagine what a beautiful place it was in its days of glory.
We visited Paronella Park with relatives and friends on several occasions the worst being shortly after cyclone Larry and was so sad to see the destruction Larry had caused. It broke my heart as I felt my dream was shattered as well.
In January 2008 we visited once more and so much had been done to restore the park to what it was before the cyclone. It was wonderful. The gardens were beautiful. The avenues of trees with their view to the waterfall were beautiful. I felt my childhood dream had been restored.
Paronella Park is indeed a beautiful place with beautiful memories.
