Sustainability has been part of Paronella Park's story since long before it became a recognised tourism principle. José Paronella dreamed of creating a place where people could connect with nature, architecture and imagination. Today, we honour that vision by ensuring the Park is protected, preserved and shared responsibly for future generations.
As custodians of this National Heritage-listed destination, we recognise that our responsibility extends beyond maintaining historic buildings. We care for five hectares of tropical rainforest, protect the natural environment surrounding Mena Creek Falls and continually invest in preserving the unique character of this remarkable place while improving the visitor experience.
Environmental Stewardship
Paronella Park is proud to generate renewable hydroelectric power using the same natural resource that inspired José almost a century ago. This clean energy contributes to the operation of the Park while reducing our environmental footprint.
We continually seek opportunities to reduce waste, conserve water and improve the efficiency of our operations. Our gardens are maintained using environmentally responsible practices, and we work to protect the diverse flora and fauna that call the Park home. Conservation decisions are made with the long-term health of the surrounding Wet Tropics environment in mind.
Conserving Heritage
Unlike many attractions, Paronella Park is both a tourism destination and an active heritage conservation project. Maintaining concrete structures built in the 1930s within a tropical climate presents unique challenges, requiring ongoing restoration, stabilisation and specialist conservation work.
Every visitor contributes directly to preserving an irreplaceable part of Queensland's history, ensuring José Paronella's legacy continues to inspire future generations.
